Sepia Tone in Photoshop
May 21, 2007
Creating a Sepia Tone in Photoshop is very easy to do. There are various methods you can use to apply a sepia tone in photoshop including the layer style method, but for this article we will focus on a manual method which will give you more control over the effect. You can also use this method to tone your photos in any other color you want.
Step 1:
Open up your black and white photo, or convert your photo to black and white. For the purposes of this example we converted a photo to black and white using the
channel mixer method
to achieve a more dramatic black and white looking photo.
Step 2:
Create a new layer on top of your other layers. Fill the layer with the following color : R:141 G:83 B:3
Step 3:
Set the layer blending mode to soft light, and the opacity to 65%
You can increase or decrease the opacity to achieve a softer or more prominent sepia tone effect.
Here is the final picture with sepia tone applied. You can play around with the settings and create your own color tones using this method.
