Publisher: AdobeThe Adobe Gujarati typeface was developed by David Březina for Adobe from 2012 to 2013. Gujarati script specialist Fiona Ross consulted on the design, with Kalapi Gajjar-Bordawekar and Hitesh Malaviya providing feedback. This type family was designed to balance with Adobe Devanagari, both in regards to apparent size and design, to ensure the 2 families could be typeset together as a system. The main intended use ̶ for printed outputs, especially constant text settings ̶ directed the style direction.
The letter construction is based on traditional Gujarati calligraphy and includes a contrast circulation rather lower than the norm so as to keep strong, readable forms at little sizes. The design features cautious attention to shaping and details that allow these typefaces to also serve well as screen types at bigger sizes.
The Adobe Gujarati typefaces adhere to the Unicode standard for character encoding and leverage the technology of OpenType to produce proper script shaping and accurate mark positioning. As much as possible, conjuncts are formed using a combination of half types of consonants and mindful kerning to preserve a very little glyph set. For more elaborately formed conjuncts, the fonts include a substantial set to cover all of the most extensively happening syllables in the Gujarati language. Appropriate shaping of rukars on vertical stems is accomplished with clever OpenType alternatives in these contexts. Cautious attention has been provided to the placement of all vowel signs and modifiers. The fonts include both proportional and tabular numerals in Indian and European styles.
The Adobe Gujarati font styles are more examples of Adobe's high requirements in design and severe attention to technical quality, and offer an excellent alternative to existing digital Gujarati types.
