Since its foundation in 1901, the renowned building in the Rotterdam neighborhood Kop van Zuid, is shining. Where formerly the Holland America Line was housed, you will now find Hotel New York. A building with a tremendous history. We're pleased to take you back in time with fascinating memories.

In 1991, catering business owners Daan van der Have, Hans Loos and Dorine de Vos refurbished the at the time vacant property into a hotel/restaurant. To honor its 25 years presence, we celebrate this taking place with a brand-new typeface, 'America Line'. A homage to Wim ten Broek, the multi-talented Dutch Graphic Designer.

As early as the 1930's prior to the 2nd World War, Wim 10 Broek made the popular posters for the Holland-America Line. The impact of A.M. Cassandre here in, is clearly identifiable. Wim 10 Broek also worked for HAL with big surface areas and repaired lines in which primary colors control, emphasized with shadows gotten by spraying technique.

He also made graphic works for, amongst others, the World Exhibit in New York, the Dutch train business 'Werkspoor' and the royal Dutch steel factory 'Hoogovens'. His drawings and lettering provided me a love for the trade and naturally offered me an entirely various view on typefaces. That's how I slowly however surely made my way to the trade.

Based on the letters I had at my disposal from the Holland-- America Line poster, I started to finish the alphabet in the exact same style as the original text. I digitized whatever in order to get a functional and contemporary font. The Holland America Line Font includes uppercase and lowercase with all the requirements of contemporary times to develop a good digital typeface and to be able to utilize it for all graphic purposes.
