Developed by Christian Thalmann, Backstein is a display screen sans font household. This typeface has thirty-two designs and was published by Catharsis Fonts.

Backstein is an abstract sans constructed to last. Its strong horizontal foundation, pragmatic building and construction, and rock-solid texture make it a powerful choice for screen and logotype applications, while its initial lettershapes and subtle eccentricities maintain legibility even at smaller sized sizes. It comes totally equipped with pan-European language assistance, ligatures, and stylistic alternates.

Backstein is now offered in a spectrum of 8 weights, from ethereal Hairline to bedrock Strong. While each weight is readily available individually, we suggest the Backstein Fundamentals (Light, Regular, Vibrant) or Backstein Household (all 8 weights) worth packs.

Backstein is an original design by Catharsis Fonts (Christian Thalmann) that took its motivation from the broken antiqua lettering in Berlin's old subway stations. Its name suggests "baked brick" in German, summarizing the intent behind the design: A strong, no-nonsense font style you can construct on. This typeface is devoted to Simone.
