Bonsai is a typewriter typeface family. This typeface has 2 styles and was published by Three Islands Press.

Years ago, I established an interest in the Japanese art of overshadowed potted trees, bonsai. I purchased some books on the subject from Brooklyn Botanic Garden. In one-- Handbook on Bonsai: Unique Methods (seventh printing, February 1976)-- the type was bad. Old used lead type, I think, spread out wide in the tops of characters and disappearing on the bottoms. 20 years later, I came across my Brooklyn Botanic Garden collection and was struck once again by this intriguing type. Influenced, I made a typeface. Didn't take me long to pick a name for it either: a name with a double-meaning, based both on its look and its inspiration. Bonsai has 2 designs, a roman and a real italic; OpenType functions include true small capitals, old-style and lining figures, many ligatures, and support for Central/Eastern European alphabets.
