Having in hand an original concern of The New-England Weekly Journal (" Containing the most Amazing Occurrences Foreign & & Domestick") from April 8, 1728, and a celebratory reprint of the Massachusetts Sun (" Americans!——- Liberty or Death!——- Sign up with or Die!"), from May 3, 1775, I set to work. The result: a full-featured typeface household that simulates the type on printed matter from the Colonial American period. Broadsheet offers you all the double-s ligatures you could ever dream of. Looks implausibly authentic in either screen type or long blocks of body copy. You'll even discover a couple printer's flourishes here. The Broadsheet family has roman and real italic designs; OpenType features consist of true small capitals, old-style and lining figures, various ligatures, and Central/Eastern European alphabets.
