CA Regular Serif is the perfect companion to its grotesque sibling CA Normal. But it is not just a serifed equivalent. It has a character of its own while maintaining the principal percentages and the idea of quirkiness. It was not the objective to build a typeface that can instantly be determined as a relative of CA Normal. The intent was to develop a coordinating typeface in elements of aesthetic and concept. Whereas commonly serif-companions to grotesques are old-style or slab-serif, CA Typical Serif is situated in between contemporary and slab-serif typefaces.
It gets aspects of timeless newspaper type as brought to us by Chauncey H. Griffith's legibility group, sharing the flavor of abrasive information and "slabbish" serifs. However the proportions are more condensed than the among its predecessors providing it a bit more sophistication, which moves it closer to the visual of scotch romans.
