Chico was by created by Javier Mariscal and Josema Urós specifically for the final roll of credits in the animated film Chico y Rita.
The goal was to create a typeface with a good readability but that communicated a strong script character and, in some method, tuned to the style of line utilized throughout the film.
Using a modular sans-serif as a template, Javier Mariscal reinterpreted the types freely, while maintaining gridlike proportions.
Chico can be helpful for comic-book lettering, editorial work and display applications.
