Ciseaux Matisse is a display screen font household. This typeface has four designs and was released by Harald Geisler.

Ciseaux Matisse was inspired by the exhibition Drawing With Scissors, which I went to at the Kunsthalle Schirn in my home town of Frankfurt am Main in 2003 and the book Jazz released in 1947 by Henri Matisse.

Admittedly, prior to that time I wasn't a fan of Matisse's work, neither his late nor the early work. That definitely changed after the exhibit. While his concepts have been overused on postcards and mouspads, in front of the originals you forget those tiny pictures. A few of the works were huge-- bigger than 24ft. By cutting directly into the color Matisse created shapes with strong dynamics.
Years later on, in 2007, I utilized that inspiration to cut an exclusive font for a newspaper that I created at that time (see Gallery Pictures). Later I established that font style into the 4 styles included here. The cut-out design is a paper cutout; boxed is the paper background. Both direct and boxed linear have no curved details, so they are more aggressive. As drawing with scissors indicates, all characters are cut by hand. With only uppercase letters, this typeface is created for editorial usage:

.

headlines, slogans in ads, or musical use in posters and flyers that require the little touch of allure scissors.
In special cases the lowercase letters consist of alternate shapes to the uppercase forms.
