According to Wikipedia, a ‘‘ clip joint' "is an establishment, normally a strip club or club (frequently claiming to offer adult entertainment or bottle service) in which consumers are tricked into paying excessive quantities of cash, for surprisingly low-grade goods or services - or in some cases, absolutely nothing - in return." These establishments were rampant throughout the restriction years.

However, the motivation for Clip Joint JNL originates from a more favorable source: a WPA (Functions Progress Administration) poster advertising ‘‘ The Entice of the National Parks'.

A vibrant, traditional Art Deco style, it represents the modern-day and streamlined approach to lettering in the 1930s and 1940s.
