Sheet music released in the 1860s for "The Soldier's Chorus" [from the Gounod opera "Faust"] had the title and the arranger's name hand lettered in a strong, condensed chamfer font.

This was the basis for Condensed Chamfer JNL, which is readily available in both routine and oblique versions.
