Courtesy captures the beauty and propriety of carefully practiced Spencerian penmanship, in particular the Zanerian school. Its lowercase is especially understated, a simple monoline with very large connections that alleviate readability. In the capitals, Courtesy includes range in both the weight of the strokes, and in degrees of flourish-- from merely fancy to over-the-top engrossery.
Based on an alphabet discovered in a 19th-century penmanship journal, Ale produced numerous additional, stylistically complementary letterforms. Alternate capitals and lowercase letters, swashed lowercase forms, and ending and decorative swashes; characters, punctuation, and non-English and accented characters.
With essentially endless methods to tailor its usage, Courtesy assists designers create fluid, signature searches stationery and invites, book covers, fashion designs, and packaging.
