The Charles Bluemlein Script Collection is an appealing suggestion of the heady days of hand lettering and calligraphy in the United States. From the early 1930s through The second world war, there had to do with 200 professional hand letterers operating in New york city City alone. This occupation saw its demise with the advent of picture lettering, and after digital typography, became essentially extinct. The odd method in which the Bluemlein scripts were put together and created - by collecting different signatures and after that building total alphabets from them - is a remarkable calligraphic adventure. Due to the fact that the set of constructed styles looked nothing like the original signatures, fictitious names were designated to the new script typefaces. The typeface styles were then showcased in Higgins Ink catalogs.
