German type designer Erik Spiekermann and American type designer Christian Schwartz developed this sans FontFont between 2003 and 2011.

The household has 14 weights, ranging from Thin to Ultra (consisting of italics) and is preferably fit for advertising and product packaging, book text, editorial and publishing, logo, branding and imaginative industries, little text, wayfinding and signage in addition to web and screen design.

FF System provides advanced typographical assistance with features such as ligatures, little capitals, alternate characters, case-sensitive forms, fractions, and super- and subscript characters.

It features a total series of figure set options-- oldstyle and lining figures, each in tabular and proportional widths.

As well as Latin-based languages, the typeface family also supports the Cyrillic and Greek composing systems.

In 2004, FF Unit received the TDC2 award.
