The font is in fact not a revival of 'Avant Garde'-- by Herb Lubalin-- but it takes its spirit. Fibra is a geometric sans serif, yet without the common structural strictness of these type of typefaces, that represents speculative type design.
This can be seen in the contrast between curves and straight lines in some characters such as 'n' and 'h' unlike rounded ones such as 'a' and 'd'; details of some display screen characters (e.g. three upper terminals in 'W' and projection off the stem in 'A'); and overstated terminal in 'R'. All these functions give Fibra a strong personality-- a sans serif typeface that 'provides you the chills'.
.Fibra was specially created for display screen usage. The typeface has an extremely generous x-height that permits usage in business text, thanks to its great readability. Fibra comes with 2 subfamilies-- a more 'regular' Standard family, with a smaller sized quantity of stylistic features, for use in subheadings or any other kind of text that needs rule, and an Alt household that flaunts the true potential of the font, making it the best option for publication headings, posters and logotypes.
