Figgins Brute was developed by Vincent Figgins, Iza W and released by Intellecta Style. Figgins Brute includes 8 designs and household plan choices. p >' A capital entitling confront with characters, mistakenly identified in Figgins specimen book of 1817 as an 'antique' or roman. With an extremely bold, nearly monoline building and squared serifs as thick as the primary stroke, this type exceeded even the fat face style in blackness, it was popularised by the development of handbills and early marketing posters, which required strong type designs to predict commercial messages from a distance. A sign-writer pal of mine theorises that the Egyptian design originated with the North African campaigns (for this reason Egyptian) of Napoleon Bonaparte, and the type historian Ruari McLean also recommends that the Egyptian style originated with signwriters 'obstruct' letters, similar to the prototypical (and modern) sans serif of Caslon IV.'
