Fontella is a script typeface published by Canada Type.

Italian type style master Aldo Novarese was not popular for making calligraphic styles, nor had he any interest in them. He is much better understood for his text deals with, and rather innovative sans serif and decorative designs which ended up being the definition of what we now referred to as techno and modern.

But in 1968, Novarese shocked everyone with a fantastic flowing deco script entitled Elite. Novarese's formula of easy soft curves and toned-down swashes produces one of the most distinct alphabets ever seen, not to mention among the very best streaming and most understandable scripts. This is now its digital incarnation, named Fontella.

Fontella's applications are practically limitless. This is the sort of script that can feel comfortable basically anywhere; an indication, a refrigerator magnet, a bumper sticker label, a welcoming card, a film poster, a book cover, music artwork, magazine advertisements, newsletter headings, etc.

Digitized from original specimen and expanded with a couple of built-in alternates and ligatures by Rebecca Alaccari, the font style was named after the famed jazz vocalist Fontella Bass. These letters are simply so sweet they had to be called Fontella.
