Franca is a neo-grotesk household in nine weights plus matching italics. The inspiration for the design came trough the continuous interest in new interpretations of the classic grotesk design and a research study of „ neutral" typefaces like Helvetica, Univers or Typical Grotesk. During the research studies, additional attention was provided to the American agents of the category, resulting in the preliminary incentive for a reinterpretation, combining both paths into one contemporary design. This is reflected in the name, mixing together the names of the most popular typefaces of each categories, (Fran) klin and Helveti( ca).
.Due to its large x-height and plain design, the household is perfectly matched for all type of text. Its mid-weights are optimized for usage in long paragraphs, while the bolder weights, due to a brief descender and ascender, create a compact and positive look in headlines or short copy.
.In order to produce strong and dynamic italics, the oblique glyph shapes come with a faint calligraphic hint, defined by a higher stroke contrast and a steeper connection in between stems and arcs in, for instance, h n m and u. This is followed by different basic shapes for a and y, supporting the dynamic motion of the lowercase in general.
.A large range of opentype features like ligatures, old style figures, portions, case delicate shapes and a lot more, is offered for expert and contemporary typesetting. This is completed with eleven alternative glyph sets, making it possible for a fast modification of the typeface.
.The family supports up to 92 languages and features 500+ glyphs per font.
