When I remained in advertising-- prior to computers-- a really time consuming part of my day-to-day work was sketching headings. I utilized to be able to sketch headlines in Franklin Gothic, Times, Futura, Helvetica and numerous scripts.
We had a sort of big inverted cam-- which we called Lucy. We forecasted the alphabet onto a sheet of transparent paper, outlined the letters with a fineliner and then filled them in. It was really tedious work, but the resulting headline had its own charm and we had an irreversible race going on who was finest and fastest. I won the majority of the time! They used to call me the fastest "Magic Marker" this side of the Atlantic.
