These powerful, curved letterforms popped up in logotypes and video and upright computer game of the era: NASA, The Buggles, Atari, Pong, Sega, Namco, Stern, Devo, Apple. Gia admires that letterform, and is called after Gia Carangi, the renowned face of early 1980's pop fashion.
