Grad was created by Phil Martin, Mark Simonson and published by Mark Simonson. Graduate contains 9 styles and household plan options. p > Phil Martin, creator of over 400 typefaces from the late '60s through the '80s, designed Graduate as a redesign of the timeless Century Schoolbook for his individual use in the early '90s.

Changes both subtle and obvious have been made and many new features have been included such as little caps, old design figures, ligatures, and swash capitals.

For 10 years, Graduate was trapped inside Phil's old DOS computer system in an outdated format. Working from laserprints offered by Phil and specimens of the original ATF Century Schoolbook, Mark Simonson has brought it into the 21st century as a family of 3 feature-rich OpenType fonts.

All characters, including the swashes, small caps, and alternate characters are consisted of in the standard Grad, Graduate Italic, and Graduate Bold typefaces. The extra font styles (Graduate Alternate, Graduate Sc Osf, etc.) are consisted of for use with programs that do not yet support OpenType functions. The supplemental typefaces are not required at all with OpenType-savvy programs such as Adobe Creative Suite, QuarkXPress 7, and so forth.
