Grimmig draws motivation from strong and angular blackletter shapes and the concept of cutting letters out of paper. The interaction between curves, sharp edges, and partially non-traditional serif placement makes it an outstanding typeface for impactful headlines. The brilliant details fade into the background in smaller sized sizes and provide a pleasurable reading experience for continuous text. Open counters and a large x-height contribute to Grimmig's legibility in text sizes. It was established as part of the MA Typeface Design in the University of Reading but had actually begun before as a graduation job for Tamara Pilz.
