Gutenberg BDesigner: José Alberto Mauricio
Publisher: Alter Littera
Gutenberg B was designed by José Alberto Mauricio and released by Alter Littera. Gutenberg B consists of 1 style. p > A clean, smooth rendition of the magnificent B42-type used by Johann Gutenberg in his popular 42-line Bible. In addition to the usual basic characters for typesetting modern-day texts, the font consists of a detailed set of special characters, alternates and ligatures, plus Opentype functions, that can be utilized for typesetting (nearly) precisely as in Gutenberg's Bible and later incunabula. Also readily available as The Oldtype "Gutenberg C" Font in a somewhat roughened style replicating irregularities and ink spreads connected with old metal types, papers and parchments.

The main historic sources used during the font style process were high-resolution scans from a number of printings of Gutenberg's Bible. Other sources were as follows: Kapr, A. (1996 ), Johann Gutenberg - The Man and his Innovation, Aldershot: Scolar Press (ch. 7); De Hamel, C. (2001 ), The Book - A History of The Bible, London: Phaidon Press (ch. 8); Füssel, S. (2005 ), Gutenberg and the impact of printing, Burlington: Ashgate (ch. 1); and Guy, J. (2009 ), The Gutenberg Transformation, London: Bantam (ch. 7).

Specimen, comprehensive character map, OpenType features, and font samples readily available at Alter Littera's The Oldtype "Gutenberg B" Font Style Page.
