HWT Artz is the latest wood type to be cut at Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum. It was designed by venerable type designer Erik Spiekermann for his own print studio (P98a in Berlin), particularly to be cut into big size wood type. The digital variation is being provided to the basic public with earnings of sales to benefit the museum's continuous operations.

HWT Artz evokes bold early 20th century European poster lettering. The style itself is planned to decrease hand-finishing and therefore production time with rounded corners rather than sharp interior corners that would normally need to be hand-finished.

.

In keeping with the tradition of naming brand-new Hamilton designs after essential figures from the living history of Hamilton (and following Spiekermann's tradition of 4 letter font names), Artz is called after Dave Artz- Hamilton Manufacturing senior citizen and master type trimmer.
