The style of the first "Fat Face" is credited to Robert Thorne simply after 1800 in England. It is considered to be the very first type design created particularly for screen or jobbing, instead of for book work. The very first circumstances of Fat Face in wood type is found in the very first wood type specimen book ever produced: Darius Wells, Letter Cutter 1828. This design was produced by all early wood type manufacturers.
The design is stemmed from the high contrast, thick and thin Modern design of Bodoni and Didot developed just years formerly. The extended variation makes the face even more of a screen type and not at all ideal for text. This kind of screen type was used to contend with the brand-new Lithographic process which permitted the advancement of the poster as an artform unto itself.
This new digitization by Jim Lyles most carefully follows the Wm Page cut. The crisp details hold up at the biggest point sizes you can imagine. This typeface includes a full CE character set
