Designed by Frank Grießhammer and William Hamilton Page, HWT Tuscan Extended is a western and display serif typeface released by P22 Type Foundry.

Tuscan wood types cover a fairly vast array of designs, and there is in some cases confusion over what is categorized as a Gothic Tuscan and what is thought about an Antique Tuscan. HWT American Chromatic and P22 Tuscan Expanded are more exactly faces of the Antique Tuscan variety. Gothic Tuscans are normally absent of the heavy serifs generally associated with their Antique Tuscan brethren (although ornamental bifurcation of terminals can indicate serifs). Additional internal decoration with spikes along the stems provides some Tuscans their distinct look-- these faces are typically referred to as "Circus Types."

.

Tuscan Extended is a very large design, with a distinctive piece crossbar going through the center of most characters. Each letter is a complex system in its own right-- this typeface is best used huge in other words heading work. This design defies falling clearly into either the Antique Tuscan or Gothic Tuscan category.

.

The brand-new HWT variation of Tuscan Extended has been diligently redrawn by Frank Greißhammer. During production, he also incorporated a variety of brand-new letterforms, bringing the font style to over 300 characters (including a full ASCII character set and Central European accented characters).
