The genesis and realization of Jackalope was likewise a hybrid procedure. In 1996, LetterPerfect commissioned type designer Kathy Schinhofen to offer pen-written source product based upon her industrial handwriting style and particularly on a logo design she had created for its 'Viva la Fonts' line of script font styles. This work was digitized by LetterPerfect's Garrett Boge and later fonticized by former Trademark Cards type maven Myron McVay who combined the design and contributed extra characters. The design sat incomplete for over 12 years up until Garrett Boge restored the project in 2010 completing the extended character set and integrating the design into a multi-featured OpenType font.
Jackalope is launched in OpenType.otf and.ttf formats with 2 versions: Jackalope LP Pro is a single font style consisting of the full prolonged character set-- consisting of little caps, lining & & old-style numbers, and contextual swash lowercase alternates-- which can be accessed via the type features menu in OpenType-saavy applications such as Adobe InDesign. For software application lacking OpenType features, Jackalope LP Routine and Jackalope LP Professional are 2 conventional typefaces making up the complete prolonged character set in between them.
