Letter Gothic was created by Roger Roberson for IBM at some point in between 1956 and 1962. Motivated by Optima, the typeface originally had flared stems. A monospaced sans serif typeface developed for use on an IBM Selectric typewriter, Letter Gothic is a good choice for tabular material.
