Designed by Karsten Luecke, Litteratra is a blackletter font family. This typeface has two styles and was released by KLTF.

The idea was to make a typeface which creates a dark text block on the page, therefore combining elements of fraktur and roman type. And like with early italic types, Litteratra's italic lowercase are accompanied by roman uppercase. This recommended to consist of italics in the routine font.

With a set of italic lowercase, small caps, spaced uppercase, titling uppercase, with basic and discretionary ligatures, contextual alternates, with oldstyle and lining characters, both proportional and tabular, with superiors, inferiors and arbitrary fractions, Litteratra might be referred to as a household in one typeface. Because of a demand for this, however, we decided to provide an independent Italic typeface too.
The name Litteratra is a ‘‘ ligature' of littera atra-- dark letter.

Litteratra was a winner in the TDC2 2001 type style competition.
