Goudy Open was created by Frederic Goudy, who was influenced by the caption of a French engraving. It is Goudy's very first attempt at a "modern" face, however with less contrast and rigidity usually discovered in Bodoni style Modern deals with.
Goudy Modern was designed later on in 1918 after viewing an evidence of Goudy Open with the line filled in. Not a true "contemporary" face, however still a Goudy classic.
The Pro variations include ligatures, varieties of characters and Main European character sets.
