Massif was designed by Steve Matteson and published by Monotype. Massif contains 24 styles and household plan options. p >" Designers can't help but be influenced by the things that surround them," states Massif's designer Steve Matteson. A passionate mountain climber, Matteson discovered his motivation for his text face family in the remarkable granite developments of The United States and Canada's Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Most of Matteson's type designs are custom-made jobs designed with an end usage or customer in mind. Massif, which had no customer or particular function, was probably his most personal typeface to date. "My goal was to embody, in Massif's two-dimensional letterforms, the angular tension and smooth curvature quality of the rugged terrain of Yosemite National forest's Half Dome, which was formed by eons of glacial and tectonic activity," Matteson explains. The typeface's striking style echoes the faults and fissures that specify a massif development, resulting in an abundant texture when used for body text and exposing distinct shapes and percentages at display sizes.

The Massif household comes in 6 weights, from Light to ExtraBold, each with an italic companion. The OpenType Pro suite includes little caps, ligatures and old style figures, and uses a little set of decorative accessories. Pro typefaces also include a prolonged character set supporting most Central European and many Eastern European languages.
