Mauritius was created by Georg Trump, Patrick Griffin, Kevin King and released by Canada Type. Mauritius consists of 9 designs and household package alternatives. p > Ten years or so after his special treatment of Garalde style with Trump Mediaeval, Georg Trump took on the transitional genre with Mauritius, which was to be his last typeface. He began dealing with it in 1965. The Stuttgart-based Weber foundry released a handout previewing it under the name Barock-Antiqua in 1967, then announced the availability of the metal types (a roman, a strong and an italic) a year later on. The international printing market was already in third equipment with cold type technology, so there weren't that lots of takers, and Weber closed its doors after more than 140 years in company. Subsequently, Trump's swan song was unjustly overlooked by typography historians and professionals. It never ever made it to movie innovation or scalable fonts. Hence, among the most initial text deals with ever made, done by one of the most prominent German type designers of the 20th century, was buried under decades of numerous innovation shifts and fading records.

The metal cuts of Mauritius appear to have been hurried in Weber's desperation to stay afloat. So the only impressions left of the metal type, the sole records staying of this design, show significant problems. Some can be associated to technological constraints, but some problems in colour, accuracy and fitting are likewise rather obvious, particularly in Mauritius Kursiv, the italic metal cut.

This digital version is the outcome of consuming over an excellent designer's final type design effort, and trying to comprehend the reasons behind its disappearing from typography's cumulative mind. While that understanding remains for the many part elusive, the imaginative and technical work done on these typefaces produced very concrete results. All the obvious issues in the metal types were fixed, the style was broadened into a bigger household of 3 weights and two widths, and plenty of 21st century bells and whistles were added.
