MortiseDesigners: Seán Mongey, Max Phillips
Designed by Seán Mongey and Max Phillips, Mortise is a piece serif font household. This typeface has 6 designs and was released by Signal Type Foundry.

To mortise is "to sign up with or attach securely." Created by an ambitious furniture-maker and an aging typographer, Mortise is a solidly constructed brand-new piece serif, and marks Signal's very first cooperation with outdoors designers. A generous x-height, open counters, large percentages, and monoline strokes make it readable and useful, while the long, somewhat curved vertical serifs offer it a raffish, mustache-twirling air. The X-Light is neat and refined and holds the page well; the middle weights are sturdy and direct; and the broad, blocky serifs on the X-Bold are abundant and perhaps a bit rowdy. Readily available in six thoroughly crafted weights, Mortise is both a fresh brand-new face and a flexible addition to the age-old slab serif genre. And it pairs well with its sans sibling, Tenon.
