P22 Kilkenny is a novelty and art nouveau font style family. This typeface has 6 designs and was published by International House of Fonts.

Kilkenny is an ornamental, Victorian-style font based on the metal type called Nymphic that was developed by Hermann Ihlenberg. Ihlenburg was born in Germany in 1843 where he studied art and worked for numerous German type foundries. He emigrated to the U.S.A. in 1866 and worked for the L. Johnson & & Co. foundry, later on MacKellar, Smiths & & Jordan. American Type Creators got this typeface when they took control of the MacKellar, Smiths & & Jordan foundry and Nymphic appears in the ATF catalog of 1896.

.

For this digital variation, the character set has been broadened to include accented characters, punctuation and currency signs (and many whatever you would anticipate to discover in a digital font).

.

The original metal font style included Swash Caps, Upper Case characters and a "morticed" lower case, which was raised off the standard. This mortcied type was designed to nestle inside the elaborate swash caps in addition to work with the upper case. The five digital versions consisted of in this set are essentially various setups of these different alphabet sets, they vary as follows:

.

Kilkenny- The initial upper case with a modified lower case that has actually been enlarged, shifted to align along the standard and given taller ascenders to offer it a more "regular" appearance. Kilkenny Eureka - Real to the initial design with the "morticed" or remarkable lowercase forms. Kilkenny Swash - Original swash caps with the customized lower case. Kilkenny Swash Caps - Initial Swash caps with the original caps as the lower case. Kilkenny Swash Eureka- Swash caps that have been adapted to match the weight of the initial lower case forms.

.

In addition to all of the above, the OpenType version contains additional Central European characters along with Cyrillic characters for a total of practically 1000 glyphs.
