Publisher: International House of FontsP22 ST.G Shrift is a font series based on the type styles of Stefan George with an italic variation designed by Colin Kahn. Stefan George (1868-1933) was a German poet who led the revolt versus realism in German literature. All of his works were privately published and the typefaces that were utilized reflected his neo-classic and anti-industrial (progessive) looks; often including his own hand lettering designs. The initial typeface was cast in 1907 by a little foundry in Germany and was used mainly for the works of George in addition to other books including a huge edition of Dante's Divine Comedy.
The ST.G Shrift Fonts consisted of in this set are derived from 3 recognized variations of the original roman typeface, St.G., found in various books released in Berlin in the early 20th century. ST.G Shrift One consists of the most distinctive characters, while ST.G Shrift Two uses more familiar characters along with a redesign of characters consisting of the t and the k to be more in keeping with modern san-serif designs.
The OpenType variation of the roman includes both one and 2 and expands on them by consisting of main European characters, small caps, and small caps entitling figures.
