Poplar, a Gothic condensed, was developed from pictures taken by Rob Roy Kelly of the one enduring copy of an 1830 William Leavenworth type specimen book. Leavenworth had unusual creative abilities, and his treatment of the letterform counters as narrow slits made it the only wood kind of its kind showed throughout the nineteenth century.
Poplar is an excellent display face, its simpleness making it helpful for a broad variety of work.
