The late-19th-century Prussian-American printer and publisher Louis Prang, the "dad of the American Christmas card", was popular for his efforts to improve art education in the United States. He released lots of educational books and even founded a training school for art instructors. Among the books he published consisted of a series of alphabets for indication painters, lithographers, illuminators, designers and civil engineers. There was absolutely nothing truly original there-- in the book's beginning, Prang states that the alphabets were "based upon foreign types and adjusted for American taste".

.

The one alphabet that captured my attention because book was one simply called "Italic". It's a high-contrast modern-day, a Didone really, however with a fascinating little twist: the lowercase is almost completely connected, that makes for an interesting mix of modern typography and classic calligraphy. That things is right up my street now. Whenever my eyes occur on a contemporary, it's simple, even nearly spontaneous for me to envision swashes coming out of serifs and terminals. The caps melt and the minuscules dance with them.

.

And so I brought my vision to life. Prangs is an italic set of 3 weights, each containing more than 1300 glyphs with lots of OpenType features and Latin language assistance. This set celebrates the convergence of 3 centuries of elegant display screen alphabets. These font styles must work wherever moderns are utilized to elevate and scripts are used to appeal-- specifically today's branding, product packaging and glossy publications.
