Quartal is a family of elegant sans serif typefaces of condensed percentages. The household includes 5 regular weights, 4 condensed ones and 13 extended styles (7 upright and 6 italic). Initially there was objective to launch just 4 condensed weights for headings and advertizing texts, but later on 5 designs of wider proportions were included. As the result the location of applications becomes much larger due to possibility to use the font style for smaller point sizes. The name Quartal, which in this case implies city quarter, according to author's associations stresses advertizing nature of the style most appropriate to the city environment. Character set of the typefaces covers alphabets of Western Europe and basic Cyrillic languages. Besides it includes a variety of alternatives, particularly in Cyrillic part. Style was done by Oleg Karpinsky. Released by ParaType in 2010. In 2011 13 brand-new designs of prolonged proportions were added to Quartal household by the same author. 7 new weights and 6 corresponding italics make Quartal beneficial for setting not long texts in marketing and display matter, and for magazines as well.
