Relato was created by Eduardo Manso and released by Emtype Foundry. Relato includes 5 designs and family bundle options. p > Relato has a low contrast and "a muscular" structure that makes it beneficial for setting longer text. In display screen sizes it has a range of details that lends it an unique and personal expression. The official principle of the serif, the variety of terminal strokes and the mix of curves and semi-straight lines gives the Relato a more "human" flavor.

The motivation for the design comes from various standard calligraphic designs. The upper case letter, for example, is based upon roman capitals from the Rennaissance, whereas the lower case associates with humanist handwriting. Even so, Relato is a distinctly modern typeface, proposing private concepts on the style of type.

The italic has an unique typographic color thanks to the construction principle of damaged lines. The vibrant weights have actually an increased contrast in the union of the strokes which helps improve legibility in small sizes and reinforce their character in screen sizes.

The family includes a Regular version, Italic, Small caps, Semibold and Bold.

For a sans serif variation of Relato, please see Relato Sans.
