River Liffey was developed by Shane Brandes and released by Proportional Lime. River Liffey consists of 4 designs and household package alternatives. p > This typeface was motivated by a typeface utilized by James Williams an Irish printer active in Dublin during the late 18th century, who was heavily involved in the book trade and provided such tomes as Hume's "History of England." He aggressively tried to undercut the London publishers by using quality reprints. Copyright law then was not as strong as it is now.

Early books, have a mysterious rhythm to the look of the text, due to little variations in letters triggered by casting irregularities and ink transfer from the press. This really expected problem, which is presented in this typeface, is a pleasing impact versus the sterile regularity of modern printing technology.

This font has actually been upgraded, May 2011, to Variation 2.0 expanding the original character set by over 60% to 900+ characters and likewise including the possibility of bold type.
