The style of Sabon ® Next by Jean François Porchez, a revival of a revival, was a double obstacle: to try to determine Jan Tschichold ´ s own schema for the original Sabon, and to translate the intricacy of a design initially made in two versions for various typecasting systems.

The first was designed for usage on Linotype and Monotype makers, and the 2nd for Stempel hand composition. Since the Stempel version does not have the restraints necessary for types meant for device composition, it appears closer to a pure analysis of its Garamond forefather.

Naturally Porchez based Sabon Next on this 2nd variation and also referred to original Garamond designs, carefully enhancing the proportions of the existing digital Sabon while matching its alignments.

The brand-new family is big and versatile - with Roman and italic in 6 weights from regular to black. The majority of weights likewise have little caps, Old design Figures, alternates (swashes, ligatures, etc); and there is one ornament typeface with many lovely fleurons. The standard variations include revised lining figures that are purposefully created to be a little smaller sized than capitals.
