Developed by Manvel Shmavonyan and Yelena Tzaregorodtseva, SchoolBook is a serif and slab serif font family. This typeface has six designs and was released by ParaType.

This typeface was created at the Polygraphmash type style bureau in 1949-61 (project manager Elena Tsaregorodtseva). It is based on Shkolnaya (‘‘ School') typeface, 1939 (task supervisor Evgeny Chernevsky), a variation of Century Schoolbook of American Type Creators, 1915-1923 by Morris F. Benton.

It is a low-contrast text typeface of the Ionic-Legibility group and has been developed expressly for schoolbooks and children books.
