Serena is a script font released by Canada Type.

The story of Serena is a special one among revivals. Serena was neither a metal face nor a film one. In truth it never ever went anywhere beyond Stefan Schlesinger's 1940-41 preliminary sketches (which he called Saranna). A year later on, while dealing with Dick Dooijes on the Rondo typeface, Schlesinger was sent to a prisoner-of-war camp where he died, together with any product prospects for the beautiful letters he 'd drawn.

The just sketches left of Schlesinger's Saranna work are discovered in the archives of the Drukkerij Trio (the owner of which was Schlesinger's brother-in-law). The sketches were carried out in pencil and ink over pencil on four sheets of paper.

And now Hans van Maanen revives Schlesinger's spirit as carefully as the illustrations allow, and elaborately broadens the work to cover a wide range of codepages and languages. It took more than 65 years for Schlesinger's drawings to see the light, so van Maanen made certain to bring them to life stylishly and respectfully.

Serena embodies the peace and calm seldom ever discovered in mainstream calligraphy or other genres of display type. With upright elegance and a slight Eastern touch, this typeface expertly bridges the with dignity casual with the deeply spiritual. The light and soft letter kinds add an enjoyable, breezy component to anything they touch. When used moderately in titling or screen, Serena resembles a sigh of desire, uncommon but quite memorable and really appreciated.
