Technopen JNL is a display sans font released by Jeff Levine Fonts.

At initially glance, the lettering design of Technopen JNL appears to imitate the computer-age typefaces of the 1980s. In truth, this font is obtained from an alphabet sample discovered in an instructional pamphlet for the Esterbrook Drawlet Pens.

The Drawlet line was Esterbrook's response to the renowned Speedball pen points offered through their chief rival, the Hunt Pen Manufacturing Company.

So, what seems to be late 20th Century typography is actually from vintage source product. In fact, the whole contents of the training pamphlet were copyright 1929!

.

A few small changes were made to the initial A-Z alphabet and extra characters were included. The name Technopen is a shortening of the term ‘‘ technical pen', which is both a nod to the techno age of the 80s and the technical instruments of the past used for drawing and lettering.
