In the typography book 'Der Schriftsetzer' (Fachbuchverlag, Leipzig, 1952), by Paul Fritzsche, this definitely gorgeous slab serif design is presented in all its variations. Fritzsche remarked that-- because of its rather condensed form and its relatively long ascenders-- the 'Werkschrift' of the Technotyp (equivalent with our 'Regular') seemed to be effectively fit to work as a text face, and recommended for this purpose that the face be cut for the composing maker. However, this never happened and the whole Technotyp family was offered for hand composition only.
This is finally changing and being remedied for excellent now: URW++ proudly presents the new digital variation of this really captivating font style household with its distinct flavor of the 1950s, adding it to the other digital renditions of Herbert Thannhaeuser fonts at URW++, particularly Garamond No. 4 and Magna. The original Typoart household had an italic design for the light variation just. The new digital version of Technotyp includes italic designs for the routine, medium and bold weights also, enhancing the family to satisfy today's requirements and requirements for professional type setting. To even more increase its effectiveness, Cyrillic faces were created, too. Real to the requirement for all digital typefaces at URW++, the character set for Technotyp covers all West- and East European languages.
