Terra Ignota is a historical typeface released by 3 Islands Press.

The concept for Terra Ignota concerned me as I was appreciating a recreation of Amerique Septentrionale, a 1650 map by French cartographer Nicolas Sanson, offered me by my parents years ago. The handlettering has a sort of rakish character, expressive of pirates or adventurers at a time of unbridled world expedition. I wound up putting the project aside, but the concept to create this font yanked gently at my mind till I simply couldn't overlook it any longer. I 'd initially planned to call it "Terra Incognita," but throughout my dilly-dalliance another font style showed up with that name, so Terra Ignota it is. It's got an italic slant and a purposeful feel, in keeping with its historic roots. Useful for replicating old hand-lettered documents. OpenType features consist of true small caps, various ligatures, Central/Eastern European and Greek alphabets, and numerous cartographic ornaments.
