It took place to me years ago that the graphic arts community might discover useful a font style that mimicked the classic look of nineteenth-century handwriting. Conveniently, my mother was then working at the Center for American History at The University of Texas at Austin, my home town. She made copies of the letters of some well-known Texans-- Houston, Austin, Travis, Rusk. Thomas J. Rusk's penmanship caught my eye as the most accessible of the bunch. As far as I understand, Texas Hero was the very first genuinely genuine historic penmanship font style, launched in 1994.
