Although initially created as a rational/geometric font style, Triplex developed into one of Licko's the majority of instinctive typeface designs at the time. It's very first comprehensive use was in Emigre magazine # 14, an unique issue committed to Swiss designers.
Triplex was planned as a friendly replacement for Helvetica. The name Triplex describes the 3 versions that comprise the whole family; Triplex, Triplex Serif and Triplex Italic. Each version of the typeface can be found in light, strong and additional vibrant. The italic was designed and drawn by type designer and sign painter John Downer, and was developed to deal with both the serif and sans serif versions.
