THE SPARK
Uniform began as a trigger of motivation one day while I was shopping at the store. I was looking at some typography on a can of canine food and the concept popped into my head, "What if there was a geometric typeface with a circular O that when condensed, the O ended up being straight sided, rather of ending up being an oval?"
I rapidly sketched out the concept of Uniform and liked what I saw, the only issue was I was working full-time as a graphic designer, and as a newly married partner, I didn't have whenever to make the comprehensive typeface.
.LETDOWN
A year and a half later on, shortly after the birth of my very first kid, my employer cut my hours in half. Although difficult, I saw this event as an opportunity to finally have time to complete the typeface I had in my head. I spent a couple months putting together a Kickstarter campaign, believing it would be a smashing success, and I would be able to live off the contributions long enough to finish the typeface. Wrong! The project was a flop and I was left discouraged and dejected, thinking that the excellent idea I had in my head would never ever become a reality……
PERSEVERANCE
At the end of the year, in December 2013, I decided to go for it and make this new type household no matter what it took. I started awakening a couple of hours prior to work each early morning (getting only four hours of sleep each night) thoroughly crafting each specific glyph day by day. After nine months of tough work (and almost killing myself at the same time!) in October 2014, I finally had actually a completed item all set to be released to the public!
THE PINNACLE
Fast forward a couple of years and now Uniform has reached it's pinnacle, Uniform Pro. Consistent Pro now offers prolonged language support consisting of Cyrillic and Greek character sets, incorporated italic designs, additional weights, and additional OpenType features.
