A page from an "concepts pamphlet" that was copyrighted in 1939 by the Sanford Ink Company displayed a hand lettered variation on the counter-less [or solid] alphabet that so typified the Art Deco style of the times.
Bold, bold and gorgeous, Upscale JNL stimulates high-end department shops, fine millinery shops, cafeterias, club and other organization establishments from the Streamline era.
This kind of lettering design was a workhorse, and might (and still can) take on any message with strength, clean lines and class.
